podcast is up

next podcast TBD

Friday, July 18, 2008

First off, I wanted to let you guys know that the new site should be coming up fairly soon. We are waiting on our old hosting place to switch us over to the new one. In the meantime we are able to access the site and check things out, so hopefully it will be up and fully functional before you guys even see it.

Second, just got a heads up about a new KR game, American Idol Encore 2. The press release came out on Wednesday the 16th, and it was playable at E3 yesterday. From the few screenshots I found while quickly surfing the net I only got one song that I could figure out off the top (first on the list) and some from GameSpot's E3 preview:

  • Apologize
  • Maneater
  • Eye of the Tiger
  • Maggie May
  • Wait for You
  • Enjoy the Silence
I also have confirmation that any DLC purchased from AIE will be compatible with AIE2, so no worries there. We'll have more news as we can gather it. For now, celebrate, for this Fall the KR library will be expanding yet again!

First of all I wanted to let you know that I have posted the podcast we recorded a couple weeks ago. We were going to wait until we switched hosting companies but it is taking too long and we don't want you to go too long without one. We are hoping to record another one in the next week or two, and hopefully we will be able to post it on our shiny new web hosting server for you to enjoy.

In the vein of hosting, we have gotten a new hosting company, we are just waiting for the old one to switch the domain settings to route to the new place. Hopefully that will be done soon, in which case you won't see this message and we'll be able to get the site back up and running.

The main site will temporarily be the same as the current main site, the link for the forums should work because they are installed in the same folder on the new host as they are now. News won't show up but I will make a temporary "news post" until we get the new site fully functional.

As you may have read in previous newsposts or seen for yourself when trying to access them, the forums have been down for the better part of a month and it looks like they will not be back up unless we switch hosts and reform the site.

On the one hand, this will allow us to have a fresh start with a new host and get things in order that we have been meaning to organize for a while. I have already downloaded all the information from the site (or at least everything I can, I had some issues with the transfer but I believe I got at least the important things including the main site stuff) and I believe all we will need to do when we get the new host will be to re-upload everything.

As a worst case scenario, we will have the main parts of the site back up (all the content pages, my FAQs, media stuff, game information, podcasts, etc.) but without the current setup of the news and/or message boards. (Columns will still likely be down, but it would be nice if they started working again too.) If that's the case we will have to start from scratch, meaning all the posts will be gone and everyone who was on the boards before we started the manual signups will have to re-register. We will be able to re-register anyone we have information for, meaning anyone who sent us an email with their requested username, and we will sign you up again with a temporary password.

I'm hoping that the databases will remain intact and we won't lose any/much information, but please understand that we are doing everything we can to alleviate the situation and that loss of data may be something we can't avoid. We will keep you posted as things progress.

We will temporarily be suspending all major updates to the site, and I will not be uploading the newest podcast until the situation is resolved. Once we have decided on a new host and gotten everything we can back in place we will resume operations as normal and, hopefully, things will run smoothly after that point.

Thank you all for your patience and we hope to have this issue resolved completely within the next few weeks.

Rock Revolution

So yeah. Boards are down still but that doesn't mean we still can't deliver some news. And to which, we say, it's about time. More in the article at the link above courtesy of Gamespot. I'm sure we'll have debates about this later when the message boards stop hating me.

Even more bad news: The forums crapped out. Again. The frustration level is high so I feel your pain. I'm going to get this resolved soon and if not, we might have to switch server hosts because this is plain getting ridiculous.

Good news? A new podcast should be going up soon or should be going up now so check your iTunes or the podcast link to the left. We got a good one based on Summer Movies with some special guests on there so do tune in! Sorry for the inconvenience and we'll get the forums up soon.

Good news first: the forums are back up.

Sorta bad news: the old forums are still not working. Not so worried about them, though. In fact I think we will temporarily lock out the old boards since I think that's where the problem with both of them originated.

Bad news: we didn't have time to do a podcast last week. We are shooting to record one tonight and post it sometime tonight or tomorrow, then hopefully we will be able to record another one sometime during the week to post by the end of the week so we can catch up.

This is, of course, if we have a topic for the following podcast. If we don't then we will have to push it back until next week anyway and hope we can come up with a topic. We'll see, since we probably have ideas floating around that we never had time to work on.

First order of business today is letting you all know that we have pinpointed the cause of the malfunctions in the forums. Hopefully the hosting team will have our database back up and running shortly and we will be able to remedy the situation. At that point we will resume normal forum activity and hopefully we won't have any more big hiccups like this one.

Second, we would like to announce a winner in our KR:AI Encore contest, forum user ANIME will be taking the prize of 1600 Microsoft points for completing all the achievements. Congratulations!

We will have our next podcast out later this week, so keep your eyes peeled!

It is my pleasure to announce we are back in the podcast groove, I have put up #2.9 and we are going to be releasing #2.10 later this week.

Unfortunately, the forums are being iffy and half the time aren't even coming up, there is apparently a problem when it tries to connect to the database. It started happening (at least as far as we could tell, it may have started before then) and I don't know when it will be resolved. Hopefully soon. We'll keep you guys posted.

Hey folks, it is my pleasure to announce that I have uploaded the first version of the Karaoke Revolution Presents: American Idol Encore FAQ. This FAQ covers the Xbox 360 version, though most of it should apply to the Wii (except online/achievements) and PS3 (except achievements, when it comes out) versions of the game as well. I believe the old guides (specifically the KR:AI guide, when it's completed, but the KRP guide will likely be close) will provide you with most of the information you need about the game for the PS2 version.

Enjoy, and let me know if you have any questions about the FAQ or if you find any errors.

For those of you who don't check the forums, we'd like to let you know about our KR:AI Encore Achievement Contest. There will be two prizes:

1) Xbox Live Gold Subscribers: The first Xbox Live Gold Member to collect all 28 achievements in KR:AI Encore will win a prize of 1600 Microsoft Points.
2) Non-Gold Xbox Live Members: Those who don't have a Gold membership and therefore can't play online will not be left out. The first non-gold member to collect the 22 offline achievements (all but the World Tour, Global Star and Grudge Match achievements, for playing and winning the ranked ones) will also win 1600 Microsoft Points.

If you have a forums account, all you need to do is post here with your Xbox Live Gamertag if you've completed the requirements for the contest. If you don't have a forum account, you can either go through the creation process (be sure to put in that you have a contest entry so we can expedite the process) or just send an email to the site email address with the subject "KR:AI Encore Achievement Contest" and your gamertag in the body. We will announce the winners here when the time comes.

You heard it, folks, this week is the launch of Karaoke Revolution Presents: American Idol Encore on the PS2, X360 and Wii. Unfortunately for those of you looking to get it on PS3 you'll have to wait another month, but that just gives you an excuse to play with a friend for now!

We don't have any new information, but you can check out the interview with Keith Matejka for the information he was able to share, and we'll be bringing you a review of the game the week following the release. I will also be working hard on my FAQ for the game once I get it, probably on Wednesday.

Keep an eye out and be sure to pick up the game this week!
