Susan is one of the singers for all the Karaoke Revolution games. She was EASILY the forums favorie singer, with such comments as, "She made Complicated good!" Which we all agreed with. But Susan has released some CD's of her own and I urge you to pick them up. Not only would it support this wonderful person, but you'd be umm...Just buy the damn things! :-p

-Thanks Susan for being so kind, Tom Lane (Webmaster)

This Interview was conducted over AIM, which means it's much longer and more interesting than others.

Pt 1:

Susan Zelinsky: HI there
Thomas Lane: Hey :-)
Susan Zelinsky: i just got back from chicago
Thomas Lane: Did you enjoy it?
Susan Zelinsky: yep. and this morning i sang another song for Karaoke Revolution!
Thomas Lane: Really? Which one?
Thomas Lane: I do have some questions BTW :-P
Susan Zelinsky: I can't tell you or I'd have to kill you. hee hee
Thomas Lane: heh
Susan Zelinsky: fire away
Thomas Lane: Some on the forums asked : Can you and if so will you sing Fantasia Barrino songs?
Susan Zelinsky: i'm embarressed to say I don't know who Fantasia Barrino is... UNLESS, you mean the American idol gal
Thomas Lane: I dunno who it is either :-P
Susan Zelinsky: HA! i just looked up her name on the web and it said www.fantasiabarrino.com was for SALE!
Thomas Lane: Ah
Thomas Lane: Isn't American Idol mostly covers?
Susan Zelinsky: i wonder if that's who they meant. the girl from A.I. If so, my voice is NOTHING like hers and I bet they'd get someone else to do it. Yes, American Idol is mostly covers, but Kelly Clarkson had some originals.
Thomas Lane: Anyways what was it like recording those songs? What was yer favorite?
Susan Zelinsky: hmmm... I'm still thinking...
Susan Zelinsky: I really liked "Are You Happy Now"
Susan Zelinsky: Michelle Branch
Thomas Lane: Mrs. Michelle Branch :-)
Thomas Lane: Where you surprised as such comments as, "She made Complicated sound good?"
Susan Zelinsky: I thought that was so nice!
Thomas Lane: It's true :-P
Susan Zelinsky: It really made me feel good, all warm and fuzzy!
Thomas Lane: heh
Thomas Lane: How was Mr. Littlejohn? And what was it like working at WaveGroup?
Susan Zelinsky: Will Littlejon is an amazing, kind, professional guy. His studio gets an A+ and so do all of his employees.
Susan Zelinsky: They take good care of me and the other singers and musicians whenever we go to do a session.
Thomas Lane: Semmed like it from the movie included on the disc :-)Did you ever get to meet Avril, Michelle, Cyndi(Right?) and whoever else you've sang for?
Susan Zelinsky: Unfortunately I haven't met any of the original artists.
Thomas Lane: Maybe the correct question would've been "Would you have LIKED to meet"?
Susan Zelinsky: Oh, and I had a blast singing "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun", too. Cyndi's voice was a challenge to mimic.
Thomas Lane: It came out good.
Susan Zelinsky: Thank you. I would like to meet Cyndi or Madonna. They are veterans of the biz.
Thomas Lane: You said before you dressed up for occasion...What was In your oppion, the best character to dress as?
Susan Zelinsky: I think it's back to Cyndi again. i just wore a fun skirt and a bunch of bracelets
Susan Zelinsky: is that how you spell bracelets?
Thomas Lane: Our site has a history of typos, no one cares :-P.
Thomas Lane: Makes it more "proffesional"...See?
Susan Zelinsky: LOL! I didn't go over the top with any of the outfits, but it helped me get into character.
Susan Zelinsky: hee hee
Thomas Lane: So did you do any of the songs for KR v2?
Susan Zelinsky: KR 2?
Thomas Lane: Karaoke Revolution Volume 2.
Susan Zelinsky: I know what you meant. I can't believe they didn't ask me back!
Thomas Lane: They asked you back for Karaoke Revolution Volume 3 though?
Susan Zelinsky: Just kidding. I did 8 songs. :o)
Susan Zelinsky: he ehee
Thomas Lane: Hahaha
Thomas Lane: Damn I was like "Oh crap gotta cancel my pre-order now..."
Susan Zelinsky: you are too cool!
Susan Zelinsky: :o)
Susan Zelinsky: LOL
Thomas Lane: Yeah they call me Boston The Cool.
Susan Zelinsky: Yeah, I just got to hear some of the songs.
Susan Zelinsky: we both like the word Yeah...
Thomas Lane: Yeah.
Susan Zelinsky: :o)
Thomas Lane: XD
Susan Zelinsky: do you have a bostonian accent?
Susan Zelinsky: cuz i sure as heck have a california one
Susan Zelinsky: like, for sure.
Thomas Lane: No I have a Northern accent...like in Fargo
Susan Zelinsky: SWEET!
Thomas Lane: Yah
Susan Zelinsky: I just got back from Lake Villa, Illinois, and Waukashaw, Wisconsin
Susan Zelinsky: Ya know.
Thomas Lane: Hah
Susan Zelinsky: did you got to boston college?
Thomas Lane: No, not that age yet :-P
Susan Zelinsky: get out!
Thomas Lane: Nlope, i'm erm...Whats the average college age? 22?
Susan Zelinsky: (that was so Jennifer Aniston!)
Susan Zelinsky: 18-22
Thomas Lane: Im *has to count numbers on keyboard* 3 years from 18 :-P..
Susan Zelinsky: ok, so since your a fan, are you going there?
Susan Zelinsky: forward or backward from 18?
Susan Zelinsky: :o)
Thomas Lane: Who knows...Maybe Berklee College of Music
Thomas Lane: Backwards
Susan Zelinsky: DOUBLE SWEET
Susan Zelinsky: ok, so you don't have a driver's license yet?
Thomas Lane: Nope.
Susan Zelinsky: that's how young you are?
Thomas Lane: Yup.
Susan Zelinsky: i love it!
Thomas Lane: I'm lovin' it...Just like McDonalds.
Susan Zelinsky: ok, well i'm getting to know more about my interviewer
Susan Zelinsky: yeah, except without the stupid melody that Justin sold 'em.
Thomas Lane: And im sure the KR.net people will appreciate this one.
Susan Zelinsky: yeah?
Thomas Lane: yeah...Most interviews are boring and through e-mail :-P
Thomas Lane: So what was the best song from KR V2?
Susan Zelinsky: Well, I'm really not aloud to say. I will tell you that there is at least one repeat artist.
Thomas Lane: We have the song list for it already ;-)
Susan Zelinsky: show me and i will gladly tell you which one was my favorite. :o)
Susan Zelinsky: I really do have to be careful cuz I signed a confidentiality agreement.
Thomas Lane: http://karaokerevolution.net/info.php
Susan Zelinsky: "Cry," - Faith Hill "Baby One More Time," - Britney Spears
Susan Zelinsky: "Papa Don .t Preach," - Madonna
Susan Zelinsky: "The First Cut Is the Deepest," - Sheryl Crow
Susan Zelinsky: "Toxic," - Britney Spears
Susan Zelinsky: "I .m With You," - Avril
Susan Zelinsky: "It .s My Life," - No Doubt (Thanks parasitic) "White Flag," - Dido
Susan Zelinsky: Ok, those are all the songs I sang
Thomas Lane: Noice.
Susan Zelinsky: And I think my favorite was "Cry" because of Faith Hill's style. I kinda sing the way she did in that song in my own band.
Thomas Lane: Fell free to shove in a plug for yer band :-P
Susan Zelinsky: http://www.susanz.com
Susan Zelinsky: LOL!
Thomas Lane: So did you guys have any outtakes or mess-up's that where extremely funny?

Thomas Lane: Can I rip it and post it on the site? :-)
Susan Zelinsky: The shot is of Will talking to the video camera, then you can barely hear the burp, and then he says, "Were those those PEPPERS?" (peppers I like to eat at lunch!)
Thomas Lane: Ha! We'll have to look for it :-)
Thomas Lane: I think *looks to technical guy* we have a sampling of yer KR V2 music.
Susanz4: hey, i gotta go. my ride is hear.
Thomas Lane: Well an yfinal words?
Thomas Lane: Thanks BTW
Susanz4: no prob
Susanz4: um...just that ..
Thomas Lane: Heh
Susanz4: um...this was fun and I don't want it to end!
Thomas Lane: We'll have a roudn two :-P

Pt 2:

Thomas Lane: What can we expect from you in the future?
Susan Zelinsky: In the future I'll be doing more Karaoke Revolution
Thomas Lane: Yup
Thomas Lane: So, How'd you land this job?
Susan Zelinsky: well...
Susan Zelinsky: i've always been a singer. I liked doing musicals in high school and I was in a band, too.
Susan Zelinsky: (sorry for the delay... friend just came to the door)
Thomas Lane: No prob
Susan Zelinsky: Ok, so anyway, I have been singing in a few bands lately and some of the musicians I worked with were working at Wavegroup. One of the, Darryl Anders (bass), recommended me to Will.
Susan Zelinsky: I have been doing commercials and Voice Over work for many years, and lots of acting, so they thought I'd be good at portraying the original singers.
Susan Zelinsky: Do you think your readers would be interested in knowing what other games I've worked on? Commercials? Movies?
Susan Zelinsky: that's kinda fun trivia.
Thomas Lane: Yup.
Thomas Lane: I know of one- the Star Wars game right? Susanz4: Yes.
Susan Zelinsky: I'm blanking on the name. HA!
Thomas Lane: But theyll appreciate any :-)
Susan Zelinsky: Battle for Nabu!
Thomas Lane: http://imdb.com/name/nm0954563/ ;-)
Susan Zelinsky: That was the star wars game!
Thomas Lane: Yup
Thomas Lane: What part did you do in the game?
Susan Zelinsky: THAT IS THE WIERDEST THING EVER!
Susan Zelinsky: I've never seen that website.
Thomas Lane: Never?
Susan Zelinsky: never
Susan Zelinsky: ooo. I spelled it wrong. Battle for Naboo.
Susan Zelinsky: I did three characters: Adela Tyché/Female Farmer/Naboo Citizen
Susan Zelinsky: Adela was kind of a big one.
Susan Zelinsky: The others were minor.
Thomas Lane: Ah
Thomas Lane: So you did The Sims Busting Out too? :-)
Susan Zelinsky: Ok, and I was the crying waitress in "Sweet November" in a scene with Keanu Reeves. It was a lot of fun.
Susan Zelinsky: Yes, I did the female voices on Sims Bustin' Out
Thomas Lane: So what was Keanu Reeves like?
Susan Zelinsky: Another cool thing I did was poke the pillsbury dough boy in a crescent roll commercial a few years ago. I played a young mom making a holiday dinner. It was cool.
Susan Zelinsky: Keanu Reeves was very nice.
Susan Zelinsky: He's tall
Susan Zelinsky: Cutte
Susan Zelinsky: Cute
Thomas Lane: Does he do that annoying "Dude" he's known for?
Susan Zelinsky: Pretty thin.
Susan Zelinsky: no, he doesn't.
Susan Zelinsky: I asked him about his band.
Thomas Lane: What he say? :-)
Susan Zelinsky: He was polite and talked to me about it for a minute, but we were between takes and I didn't want to annoy him.
Thomas Lane: Ah
Susan Zelinsky: He said they are still playing and (back then) were about to come out with a cd.
Thomas Lane: Was this pre-Matrix or after?
Susan Zelinsky: it was before 2 & 3.
Susan Zelinsky: Oh. Other cool trivia: My husband, Michael Jobe, was the lead mold maker on Matrix 2 & 3.
Thomas Lane: Nice...:-)
Susan Zelinsky: He's working on Star Wars Episode 3 right now.
Thomas Lane: Wait wait wait, gotta label that :-P
Thomas Lane: *EXCLUSIVE NEWS*
Susan Zelinsky: VERY!
Thomas Lane: So you've seen what Darth Vader looks like, right? :-(
Susan Zelinsky: LOL
Susan Zelinsky: no, but even if I had I couldn't reveal his identity. hee hee
Thomas Lane: :-P
Thomas Lane: If you could choose for a song to be in KR, what would you choose?
Susan Zelinsky: "Hard To Handle" by Otis Redding and covered by the Black Crows in the 90's.
Thomas Lane: I'll let the higher-up's know :-)
Susan Zelinsky: :o)
Susan Zelinsky: THANKS!
Thomas Lane: Yup
Susan Zelinsky: that would be a fun song for the guys to sing.
Thomas Lane: Yup.
Thomas Lane: Of course, I Believe in a Thing Called Love will own :-P
Susan Zelinsky: ;o)
Thomas Lane: Hmm
Susan Zelinsky: hmm?
Thomas Lane: I've run out of questions :-P
Susan Zelinsky: hmmmm
Susan Zelinsky: ah
Susan Zelinsky: hmmm
Thomas Lane: What is the best site on the internet? ;-)
Susan Zelinsky: mine of course, and then yours. :o)
Thomas Lane: w00t.
Susan Zelinsky: actually, my site is nice, but I wish it did more "stuff".
Susan Zelinsky: or had more stuff.
Susan Zelinsky: i don't know.
Thomas Lane: It works. :-)
Susan Zelinsky: ah yes.
Thomas Lane: Whens "Cautionary Tales" come out? :-)
Susan Zelinsky: IT's OUT
Susan Zelinsky: finally
Thomas Lane: Yer sites shop needs to updfate that part :-P

Susan Zelinsky: did you listen to some clips?
Thomas Lane: Yup
Susan Zelinsky: :o) thanks!
Thomas Lane: Junkyards my fav ...off of the new album
Susan Zelinsky: cool. thank you!
Thomas Lane: So any words to aspiring artists?
Susan Zelinsky: Keep doing what you love and you will succeed. It is so true. I knew I'd never be an accountant or a doctor or a race car driver. I was only interested in performing. I stuck with it and now I make my living doing it. I'm very fortunate and I thank my lucky stars every day.
Thomas Lane: :-)
Thomas Lane: Are you in any of the videos for KR V2? :-)
Susan Zelinsky: just got off the phone with Will. I'm going to sing two more tunes next Friday! :o)
Thomas Lane: w00t tell him I said hi :-)
Susan Zelinsky: I dont' know.
Susan Zelinsky: i will tell him!
Susan Zelinsky: I haven't seen the video yet.
Susan Zelinsky: or game 2 for that matter.
Thomas Lane: heh
Susan Zelinsky: i hope so. it was fun seeing myself! hee hee.
Thomas Lane: Heh
Susan Zelinsky: i had a baby only 6 weeks before I started singing on K1.
Thomas Lane: That must've been hard :-(
Susan Zelinsky: It was. But you may find this amusing: I would go and sing for 2 hours, then I'd have to PUMP. HA!
Thomas Lane: hah
Susan Zelinsky: Everyone was very accomadating. they set me up in a private office and gave me as much time as I needed.
Susan Zelinsky: It was very very very cool of them.
Thomas Lane: Yeah :-)
Susan Zelinsky: areyou putting that under "EXCLUSIVE NEWS" ? HAHAHA!
Thomas Lane: If you want :-)
Susan Zelinsky: not quite as exciting as star wars and matrix. no no no!
Susan Zelinsky: i was kidding!
Thomas Lane: Haha
Susan Zelinsky: i think you've done a very good job as the interviewer.
Thomas Lane: Thanks :-)
Thomas Lane: Um...Whats yer current favorite movie/game/music?
Susan Zelinsky: let's see...
Susan Zelinsky: I really like the artist Jonatha Brooke. Her album "10 Cent Wings" is very good. She isn't very mainstream.
Susan Zelinsky: I listen to lots of independent artists.
Thomas Lane: Ah
Susan Zelinsky: Um...my favorite movie right now is Farenheit 911.
Thomas Lane: Ah
Susan Zelinsky: Just saw it. Loved it.
Thomas Lane: Cool :-)
Susan Zelinsky: have you seen it?
Thomas Lane: Nope :-(
Susan Zelinsky: It's very one sided, as the press has said. But I like the way Michael Moore makes movies. I like his ambush technique for getting answers and results.
Susan Zelinsky: Did you see Bowling For Columbine?
Thomas Lane: Nope :-(
Susan Zelinsky: You have to.
Susan Zelinsky: Any teenager in America who hasn't seen it needs to.
Thomas Lane: I will :-)
Susan Zelinsky: cool. it's on video. i'd see that one before going to Farenheit...
Susan Zelinsky: Just my opinion.
Thomas Lane: alright
Susan Zelinsky: :o)
Susan Zelinsky: good boy.
Susan Zelinsky: hee hee
Thomas Lane: :-P
Susan Zelinsky: I'm a mom now! I have to say that.
Thomas Lane: haha
Susan Zelinsky: ok, favorite game....?
Susan Zelinsky: hmmmm
Susan Zelinsky: Well, I used to love Tetris about a million years ago.
Thomas Lane: :-)
Susan Zelinsky: Now I play "Tickle Time" and "Peek-a-boo" mostly.
Thomas Lane: Those are fun :-)
Susan Zelinsky: My baby loves them!
Susan Zelinsky: She's 17 months.
Thomas Lane: Nice :-)
Susan Zelinsky: My hubby just got home from work and I need to finish booking a plane ticket, so I'd better get going. It was nice talking to you.
Thomas Lane: Yeah
Thomas Lane: Thanks again :-)
Thomas Lane: Bye
Susan Zelinsky: my pleasure.
Susan Zelinsky: bye bye
Thomas Lane: Bye
